About us

Our Students…

“Young people can dance steps, but you have to be much older to really dance!” said George Balanchine. How true! There is no limit to how adult ballet students can develop their artistry. From beginners to experienced dancers, maturity is a gift in the studio. Technique is learned, refined and enriched with artistic spirit. For beginners it will be love at first plié; a deeply personal challenge with limitless rewards. Those who loved ballet in their youth will rediscover their passion; it feels like coming home!

Have I ever thanked you for having the inspiration of opening a ballet school for adults? After giving up ballet because I was too old(!!!) I looked for an alternate form of exercise for years; however, none of them gave me what a ballet class does. But I wasn't going to go back to class with a bunch of teenagers. So I was thrilled when I found out about Elancé. It’s given me back the joy of dance.”

(Lindsay)

We Believe…

The art of ballet is about process as much as performance and there is always a new subtlety to master. There is the joy of moving in time to music, the comfort of familiar patterns repeated and refined. If you keep at it, you find one day that your body moves differently and your mood soars. If we can’t stop time moving on, we can at least mark time with joy and grace.

“I just want to say how much I enjoyed your class on Saturday. You gave us an adagio. I connected. I’ve no Idea what I would have looked like but for me I felt 'in' the music, pulled along by it as it swelled up. It/we stopped and I choked up with a tear in my eye. Amazing and brilliant.”

(Ken Phillips)

Together We…

Express emotion through movement; our steps making music visible. Rising to the challenges in every class, we are united in our commitment to classical training. Strength, grace, power and passion; so much to gain when we escape into the world of Elancé.

"I LOVE attending classes at Elancé; it is such a well-run school & a beautiful studio. It is one of the few activities I do just for myself & I find it a wonderful therapy and escape from some of the mildly vexing issues I am dealing with increasingly. Your classes at Elancé tick all the boxes for me – French language, beautiful music and environment, brain stimulation and self-discipline. I bless the day all those years ago I saw your advertisement!”

  • The Joy of Dance

“I found Elancé in 2007 after many years of yearning for the discipline and beauty of classical ballet. Returning to ballet as an adult, I was most interested in artistry, lines and form as well as beautiful classical music and I found a perfect match in the teachers and classes at Elancé. In particular my first teacher, Rosemary, has become such a mentor to me and helped nurture a real passion for dance. Ballet has become an oasis amongst the busyness of everyday life and I turn to it again now after my third child, knowing that at Elancé I am supported to be the best dancer I can be, in every class.” (Anna Griffith)
  • Ballet is our refuge

"Elancé is not only about people who love ballet. It is about people who love fighting for an ideal and for a better world. I have met many girls at Elancé who have cancer, who have had a horrible divorce, who have had parents killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Going to ballet is our refuge and our only hope to survive." (Isabel Castro)
  • Passionate, Inspiring, Encouraging & Real

"Just want to say a big thank you to your team of ballet teachers. They are passionate, inspiring, encouraging and REAL!. All the teachers bring their own unique style and way of interjecting some humour into ballet. Elancé nurtures adult learners at their different levels and allows students to explore the Entry Level classes to safely develop strength and endurance. I am very grateful for the opportunity to access this wonderful and joyous art as an adult. Through Elancé I have made some new friends that I go to ballet performances with. Keep up this terrific school - it makes a difference." (Amanda Kunjka)
  • It Comes From Deep Inside

As soon as the music and first dance steps were introduced I immediately connected with an emotional story in my head. Each sequence connected together in a flow. THIS must be dance! It comes from deep inside and not from the head. (Ken Phillips)
