Beginner Adult Ballet Classes
Our beginner adult ballet classes teach you classical ballet technique from the very first step! You will feel safe and supported as our skilled teachers guide you from ‘first position’ and learning how to place your hand on the barre (yes, that’s where we start!) to foundational proficiency in ballet technique.
With studios in Mitcham and Flemington, Elancé Adult Ballet School has been renowned for adult ballet since 2002. Our supportive community welcomes all, no matter where you are on your ballet journey. In our safe and beautifully appointed studios, we blend finessing technique with a pure love of ballet.
Entry Level Program
Our Entry Level program is unique to Elancé Adult Ballet School and has been refined over more than 15 years. This beautifully structured program of beginner adult ballet classes accommodates for adults’ individual learning styles, while maintaining a sense of fun and enjoyment, and respecting traditional classical ballet training methods and studio etiquette. Our Entry Level program emphasises artistry from the very first lesson and will help every beginner adult ballet student discover their ‘inner dancer’!
Entry Levels 1 to 5
The steady, developmental Entry Level program spans 60 beginner adult ballet classes, from Entry Level 1 to 5. Each level is a 12-week term designed to build the necessary strength, stability and knowledge to support the student’s classical ballet journey into the higher levels.
EL1 is perfect for adults with no prior dance experience. For those adults who enjoyed ballet in their childhood (no matter how long ago!), they will find one of the Entry Levels (EL2-5) ideal for easing safely and gradually back into classical technique.
Elancé Class Levels
At Elancé Adult Ballet School, we cater for every level of dance experience. We understand that trying to ‘fit’ adult ballet dancers into a basic 3 tier structure – beginner, intermediate, advanced – rarely works for the dancer. Through our carefully curated timetable of up to 12 different class levels, we can ensure that every student is both supported and challenged at the most appropriate level for their experience and expectations.
Beyond the Class
While students are appropriately challenged in their beginner adult ballet classes, we believe there is no need for added pressure in our lives! As such we do not hold exams nor present public performances. Students at Elancé Adult Ballet School enjoy an inclusive, non-competitive and supportive community, with many opportunities beyond their weekly classes, including workshops, intensives and special events.
Enrolment
Enrolment is term-based, with regular and consistent attendance ensuring students feel progress and achievement. While beginner adult ballet classes in Entry Levels 2-5 welcome intake throughout the year, new Entry Level 1 classes start four times per year (at the beginning of each term) and are for absolute beginners; so you will feel comfortable knowing that everyone in your class is new to the art form, just like you!
All initial enquiries (by phone or email) are received by Elancé Principal, Dianne, who will personally recommend the most suitable class level for you to try, based on your prior dance experience (if any).
Attire
Students are encouraged to feel comfortable in their chosen attire. Although many students choose traditional ballet wear, active-wear such as leggings and a fitted t-shirt are also ideal and hair should be tied back and off the face. A beginner adult ballet student can attend their first class in bare feet, after which ballet shoes (flats) are required. Aside from an optional water bottle, no other gear or equipment is needed to begin our adult ballet classes.
