My fellow Elancé classmates often look at me in amusement when I pull out my ‘torture tools’. The ‘torture tools’ in question are actually my foam rollers. Yep, you read that right. Plural. Foam Rollers. I have more than one. In fact, they come in a set and I wouldn’t be without them. To make it sound even crazier, we have 2 sets. One that I keep in my ballet bag so I will NEVER be without them. Another set I keep at home that I grudgingly share with my basketball-crazy husband.
I got this set from 66fit.com.au. They’re based out in Queensland and shipping is free and speedy.
When you uncap the foam roller, you’ll find 3 separate items:
Travel-friendly
This is a very compact set because all the little other foam rollers fit neatly into the hollow tube. I’ve also tucked my Theraband in to have everything in one place. It also fits very neatly into any gym bag or in my case, the ballet bag. I’ve also travelled internationally with this. I decided to skip the smaller balls and foam roller and used the empty space in the tube to store socks, underwear and smaller pieces of costume jewelry I don’t mind checking in.
Variety
This set gives you virtually all you need to foam roll the major muscle groups in your body. The tube is fantastic for calves, quads, and hamstrings. I started foam rolling my glutes with the red ball and have found I now need the stiffer yellow ball to really release the tightness in my muscles.
I cannot think of any downfall with this set. It may seem a little dear to begin with but a set like this will last you for a while.
The one and only issue I’ve experienced is my need to fight with my ball-crazy Labrador who thinks every round item is a toy to be chased after and fetched. It doesn’t quite help either when the foam roller balls are sized exactly like her favourite bouncy ball.
Final note:
Foam rollers do need to be replaced from time to time. A brand new foam roller will have a little less give to better target the tightness in the muscles. As always, seek advice from your physiotherapist for the best foam rollers as well as foam rolling methods to suit your needs.
